Make-Tember

In the last two weeks of Term 3 some of us have been involved in a learning task called Make-Tember. This involved taking some learning from this term, summarising it and creating a tool that other students could learn from.

The three options were: 1. Water Safety - from our AWE Water Survival skills sessions 2. School Pepeha - learn more about this by watching the video! 3. Quality Blog Comments - watch the videos to learn how to write a quality comment on a blog. Students involved were given choice as to how to present their work.

 The rest of us were keen to watch them. We decided to give some constructive feedback to those involved.

Here are the criteria we came up with:

1. We understand the message (the message is clear).

2. The quality of the product (e.g. easy to hear, not fuzzy, not shaking).

3. Creative e.g. interesting, has a hook, entertaining.

 We used this to give product a rating out of 3.

Messages of Support for the All Blacks

Today in Literacy we wrote messages of support for the Rugby World Cup final against the Wallabies. We discussed the intended audience (the All Blacks, coaches and support staff), the message we wanted to get across and how to incorporate the writing technique of "Personal Voice."
Here are our messages of support:

Good luck All Blacks!

You can do it! We believe in you! Have fun, enjoy the time out there because you won’t have that experience for another 4 years. Even if you don’t win, You still got in the final and NZ will still be proud. You are a really good team now all you need to do is show it!

We will be watching on Sunday at 5am,  since it’s that early you need to win!

We hope you have a great game against Australia in the World Cup final. You’ve made it this far so you can waste the Ozzys in the final. We hope you six All Blacks have a great life after leaving the team. We think the score is going to be 28/9 to the ABs. Go the All Blacks!

I have been watching some of the games but i really liked the game against France, the score blew me away. Richie Mccaw you are a good leader may you have a great last game. I wish all the luck to you guys and hope you win just like 4 years ago. I will be getting up in 5 in the morning to watch you guys win, i really enjoy watching rugby and seeing all you big tough guys getting nailed it makes me laugh. My favourite all black is Julian Savea he plays very well. The All Blacks are the best team in the world! and i mean it!

But If you can’t do it just keep on keep on keep on trying.

MAY THE ALL BLACKS SMASH THOSE AUSSIES.

We hope that you play like you did against France and smash the wallabies. Make New Zealand proud and win the world cup for your supporters. Make us proud.

Hello there team i wish you guys all my luck for the 2015 world cup final. Give it your best shot and waste the Wallabies we got to win this world cup final. Play hard and try hard!

“Hello Team” congratulations on getting into the final game of the 2015 Rugby World Cup. I wish guys you all the luck on your next continuing game Win the Rugby World Cup like you did 4 years ago. Give the Wallabies a wiping and show them how New Zealand plays give it 100%.

I am really excited for you to play heres some advice don’t kick the ball at the wrong time. I wish you all the luck Richie , Dan cater and all those players that are leaving the team, I wish you all the best luck.

Emily's Comma Learning

I had a writing goal at the start of last term that was I can use basic punctuation that is mostly correct ( A  .  ,  ?  !  ‘  “ ) Over the term I worked on that goal and I knew how to do all of them except one, commas. So I decided to find out about commas and make my own presentation on my learning. I now know what a comma is, what it can be used for and why we have commas. Enjoy :)

AWE Day 3

Today in AWE we leant how to use improved objects to save a life. 

I wonder what objects would help someone stay afloat?

We also learnt how to safely tow someone using a rope.

Te Reo - Pepeha

Why Learn Te Reo?

On Monday the class discussed why we learn Te Reo. These were our ideas. We then discussed what a Pepeha is. Have a chat with your child about this. We also discussed how Maori place names in New Zealand often have a special meaning. This was compared to many English names that were often just named by the settlers after places back in England. We learnt that Taranaki means "shining peak." As Mr A hails from North Harbour, his mountain is Rangitoto...this means "blood sky", the way the sky looked when Rangitoto formed.

Geometry Learning

Today we began some more learning in the area of Geometry. We revisited the learning from last term to help remind ourselves of all the knowledge we had.

Here are the learning goals from Term 2 we worked on:

Draw nets for simple 3D shapes and make models using the nets.
Measure angles using a protractor.
Read and identify: right angles, horizontal lines, vertical lines, parallel lines.

Here are the new learning goals we will be working on this week:

Draw cube models using isometric dot paper and make a cube model from a dot paper drawing.

Interpret plan views of a model made from cubes and make a model from someone else’s plan views.

We will keep you posted with examples of our learning throughout the unit on both this blog and each individual student's blog.
