Algorithms in Maths

To evidence our learning we often use the iPad app "Explain Everything". This app allows us to create short videos that teach others how to do something. Teaching others and creating videos like this helps us to really understanding new learning.

Here are 2 videos made by Ari and Kyle. They would love some feedback about whether their videos help them to be an "Effective Communicator" of the message they are trying to get across.

Growth Mindset video #1

Today we watched a video on something called a "GROWTH MINDSET".
Here is the video:

• Don't give up when you are learning
• Repeat things to learn them (e.g. basic facts)
• You can train your brain
• Your brain can grow
• When we learn, new connections are formed in the cells in our brain
• You can grow your brain like a muscle
• You can get smarter!

Sketching

For the people that had finished their Lego art had to go on room 10's class site and watch some videos for techniques. After we learnt the techniques we had to do a mini challenge and the challenge was to sketch something in the room. I drew a jar with paintbrushes in it

Do you ever get 'stuck' in the same genre or with the same author? Here are two sites you might like to use to help you expand your reading experiences:

Read Alikes 

In Read Alikes you can scan through the different genre and click on the title of a book you have read or are familiar with. This will bring up different options for you to try. Each click takes you into lots of other options with full bibliography and reviews as well!

In Literature-map, you write in the name of an author and you're given lots of 'floating' options of similar authors to try.

Camp:The nightline...

It was pitch black. I couldn't see much and I kept tripping. I felt my surroundings and lead myself around the roots.

I was walking the nightline trail with groups 4&5. My hands clung onto the rope, and I was trying not to fall. The rope started to lift and so i went under it with fear. 

I heard people falling over, which was good for me but not for them. I knew where the slippery parts were now. I carefully guided myself around the corner, and felt around. I didn't realise that there was a big step ahead of me so I kicked my foot on the pile of hard, wet dirt. "Ouch!" I groaned. I took a big step and another which was followed by another. Finally the course ended and people turned on their torches. "I'm glad that's over," I thought to myself.

On Friday we took a look at a video about Empathy. Empathy is one of your important attitudes that learners need to have to be effective. Here is the video:

Skimming and Scanning

This week in class we introduced the reading skills of Skimming and Scanning. We talked about how they are useful, particularly with non-fiction and complex text.

Skimming and Scanning help us to get an understanding of the main points or find a specific bit of information.
